What's in our music library?

A couple of years back we ambitiously tried to keep a complete list of our music library updated on the site.  But, it has grown too large, too rapidly for that anymore.  It is managed with a database program but not the same software as our hosting servers use.  At any rate, you're probably not looking for the entire list anyway.

As of March 2004, the library contains over 2,000 Blues tracks (in over 1,600 albums), about 1,000 swing tunes and another 2,000 jazz tracks.  All of this is enough to insure we deliver a fresh, varied mix of sounds every time we broadcast.

Our collection has grown through a number of methods with a number of media:  CDs, cassettes, and retail MP3 tracks.  The first two are no-brainers.  But, a lot of listeners are not familiar with buying music electronically.  The two main sources we've used for electronic purchases have been emusic.com and MP3.com.  MP3.com gives away thousands of tracks, as does IUMA.com.  But, they also sell music electronically.

At e-music.com you'll find an extensive Blues collection.  And, it's all available to you for only $9.95 or $14.95 a month -- that's 40 or 65 tunes a month, respectively.  And, they constantly update the collection.  Like traditional record distributors, e-music often buys up other companies' collections; not surprising since they're owned by Universal-Vivendi (soon to be just Universal again, if the Wall Street folks are accurate).

If you do become a subscriber at e-music.com, do it through us and TheBluesNet.com will earn a commission that will help us continue delivering the blues around the globe.  It won't be much but every little bit helps with our very non-profit venture.

100% Salsa is exactly what the name implies, 100% of the best Salsa music of yesterday and today.  The word Salsa "sauce" is the perfect name for a genre of music that is made up of several different cultures and sounds.  Though the exact origins of Salsa are still debated today, Cuba or Puerto Rico, we can all agree that Salsa is an art form that will never tarnish.
